President Muhammadu Buhari has made plans to buy 20 more aircraft as his government is set to equip the Nigeria College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria for better service.
The Federal Government is to buy 20 aircraft to equip Nigeria College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) Zaria and make it a centre of excellence. Mr. Hadi Sirika, Minister of State for Aviation, confirmed on Monday in Abuja that NCAT had also taken delivery of a brand new Diamond DA24NG.
The minister, who launched the new aircraft in Zaria said that the aircraft would improve the training capacity of the college.
He observed that the current aircraft in use were highly expensive to maintain, adding that the college would now be more competitive and dynamic in the global aviation industry.
Sirika lauded the efforts of the management of the college especially for introducing courses in line with the guidelines of International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
“I am aware of efforts by NCAT to run National Diploma and Higher National Diploma; be rest assured, you will have our full support and that of the president.”
The minister charged staff of the college to seek for more knowledge because the world had changed from resource based economy to knowledge-based.
Earlier, the Rector of the college, Capt. Abdussalami Mohammed, said the college currently has 29 trainer aircraft.
“These aircraft used for ab-initio training TB9, Trinidad TB20GT and Beech Baron 58 are old, the earliest being purchased 15 years ago and quite expensive to fuel and maintain,’’ he said.
The rector said the new trainer aircraft would significantly improve the flight training experience and reduce operating cost.
He added that the newly acquired aircraft was equipped with glass cockpit and garmin 1000, which would make it easier for graduating pilots to transit to new generation commercial aircraft.

As the JAMB 2017 Registration gradually comes to an end on 5th May, it is important to be sure you have been duly registered, or if the registration by Accredited CBT centres is successful.
One way to be sure is when you receive an email from the JAMB portal to confirm your registration. Apart from the fact that emails could be deceptive, or else you are sure of the sender, sometimes emails fail to be delivered.
The best approach to ascertain a successful registration is to ensure that your details have been entered directly on the JAMB portal and they actually appear on the portal. Once you are able to see your actual registration data on the JAMB portal, then you can relax.
Note that the importance of this procedure is to ensure you have been registered, before the actual closing date of 5th May. If you can’t confirm your registration, there is still time to make amends before the closing date. This procedure does not concern re-printing of exam slip for venue and date because that will most likely come after registrations.
Although re-printing of slips were earlier scheduled to start 25th April, it is most likely that this procedure will also be moved to start as from 8th May. This is only an assumption and we will notify you on this site if anything changes.
Procedures to Confirm your JAMB 2017 Registration
The earlier procedures we provided seems not to be feasible so We are calling on JAMB to provide candidates with the official online mode of checking if registration has been successfully done before access to re-print exam slip is available.
If you see details there, then you should most likely be relaxed. If not, tell us what you see so that the 9iceunity Community can offer guidance.
Remember, if you have a better way you think JAMBites can use to confirm their registration, please share with us.
Some suspects have been arrested after they allegedly hacked into Jamb registration portal, where they spent over N20m for the downfall of the portal.
Read the report as reported by PUNCH Below:
Some suspects who were allegedly caught while perpetrating certain irregularities in the ongoing registration for the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations have reportedly confessed to spending over N 20 m to construct a radio platform with which they hacked into JAMB ’s registration portal .
Saturday PUNCH had reported that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps arrested no less than five individuals who had deployed fake biometric capturing machines to register applicants .
The Spokesperson of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Dr . Fabian Benjamin , in a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday, said, “These registration thieves deployed fake biometric capturing mechanisms and super -imposed registration slips just to satisfy the curiosity of innocent candidates that their registration was successful .
“And on the day of examination, such candidates’ data would either be edited, or not found on the JAMB data base.
“Such candidates would not be verified during the examination proper. ”
Benjamin disclosed that the fraudsters were arrested variously in Oyo, Ogun and Maiduguri by officers and men of the NSCDC and brought to Abuja.
During their interrogations in Abuja , Benjamin said, the suspects gave startling revelations of how they conducted their operations.
“While being paraded in the presence of the Commandant -General of NSCDC, Abdullahi Gana Mohamadu , the fraudsters confessed to numerous registration infractions that JAMB couldn ’t imagine,” Benjamin said.

The Chairman Exam Ethics Marshals International (EEMI), an NGO, Mr Ike Onyechere, in an interview with newsmen has called for uniform cut-off mark of admissions into tertiary institutions in the country.
He also said that the idea of choosing candidates for admission because they are from educationally advantaged and educationally disadvantaged states should be removed by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
“If you look at it, Akwa Ibom was carved out from Cross River and Akwa Ibom is listed as educationally advantaged state while Cross River is catgorised as an educationally disadvantaged state.”
“In other words, the candidates from Cross River will have a lower cut-off mark than candidates from Akwa Ibom. For me, it doesn’t make sense.” He explained that most of the states listed as educationally disadvantaged had more Federal Government institutions than states listed as educationally advantaged.”
“Kaduna State has over 20 Federal Government educational institutions but it is being categorised as educationally disadvantaged.”

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the Osinbajo administrative panel of investigation to go tough on all the government officials involved in the breach of office ethics.
President Muhammadu Buhari has mandated the presidential panel probing the allegations against the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ayo Oke, to suspend all government officials linked to both cases.
A top Presidency source told a correspondent yesterday that Buhari on Friday authorised the three-man investigation panel, headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, to, before the conclusion of its assignment, suspend all government officials involved.
The panel, comprising the National Security Adviser Babagana Monguno and the Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami, is probing the allegations of violations of law and due process made against the suspended SGF in the award of contracts under the Presidential Initiative on the North-East.
The committee, which swung into action on Wednesday, is also investigating the discovery of $43.4 million by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in a residential apartment at Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos.
The National Intelligence Agency had made a claim to the recovered fund. The panel, constituted on Wednesday, was given a 14-day deadline to submit its report to President Buhari.
The source said: “The president has authorised the panel to suspend all government officials linked to the two cases. He has asked the panel to do this even before the conclusion of its assignment.
“The president has been informed of the involvement of other government officials in the two issues being investigated. More officials have been linked to these cases and Mr President has given the panel the mandate to suspend more people.”
Another source hinted that president also instructed the committee to do a thorough job. He said though President Buhari had confidence in the panel’s members, he wanted them “ to leave no stone unturned.”
The suspended SGF and the NIA Director-General on Wednesday appeared before the investigation panel hours after the Presidency announced their suspension.
The acting chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, on Friday tendered bulky “evidential” documents regarding the recovered fund. The Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, said in a statement yesterday that the panel “will conduct its work with utmost diligence and without fear or favour.”
According to him, the panel, in the discharge of its work, is expected to invite all relevant officials and private individuals who may be connected to both cases.
Osinbajo’s spokesman said the panel would also obtain and scrutinize documents that “may throw some light on the issues raised in both cases.”
Akande further stated that all proceedings of the panel “will however be in closed sessions to avoid speculations, allow for full disclosure and enhance the pace of proceedings.”

It has been revealed that former president Goodluck Jonathan is currently under pressure to abandon the process seeking for peace in the PDP.
A report by The Punch has revealed that the immediate past President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan has come under intense pressure to abandon the peace process he initiated in the troubled Peoples Democratic Party.
According to The Punch, investigations showed that the former President was also no longer interested in how to bring the two factions in the party together.
Already, the National Chairman of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has distanced himself from the peace process.
His deputy, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, revealed that the party under Sheriff would no longer take part in the peace process, which ended in confusion about two weeks ago.
Sheriff, the former governor of Borno State, had led members of his National Working Committee out of the party’s stakeholders meeting on April 6, in Abuja.
The meeting, which was called by the former President, was aimed at discussing the crisis in the party, with a view to resolving the logjam.
But while Sheriff and his team walked out of the meeting, members of the sacked national caretaker committee, members of the party’s Board of Trustees and other stakeholders stayed behind with the former President.
A bewildered Jonathan, who later described the action of Sheriff and his team as unfortunate, had promised to set up a 40-man team to fashion out how to find a political solution to the crisis.
According to The Punch, the spokesperson for the caretaker committee, Mr. Dayo Adeyeye, said on Thursday in Abuja that the former President had yet to demand the six-man team the faction ought to contribute to the peace committee.
He stated that the reluctance of Jonathan to continue with the process could be as a result of the pulling out of the process by the Sheriff group.
He added, “We have not been asked to give the names of those that will represent us (caretaker committee) at the panel.
“Don’t forget that the Sheriff group said it would not be part of the process anymore. That could be the reason. If they say they are not taking party, who are you then going to reconcile?
“I don’t know and I can’t say what is delaying it, but since the other party said it won’t take part, it is obvious that that could be the determining factor.”
Ojougboh said the party under the leadership of Sheriff would forge ahead without those he described as vultures.
While walking out of the Jonathan’s peace meeting, Sheriff had said, “The party, as of today, has one national chairman, which is Ali Modu Sheriff.
There is no PDP meeting that will take place under any arrangement that I will not make an opening remark as a national chairman.
“I think that Governor (Seriake) Dickson (of Bayelsa State) made a proposal, and we have accepted it. Other people have a programme to bring agenda which is not part of the proposal.
“And as a national chairman of the party, what I told you people in my office that I will not be a party to anybody using me for his personal agenda; I will not.”
Since he took the action, it was gathered that some members of the party, including about two governors, had called on the former President to jettison the idea of setting up any committee.
A source close to the ex-President, who spoke on condition of anonymity, argued that it was in the interest of Jonathan to allow the matter to be resolved by the Supreme Court.
The source stated, “It is in the interest of the former President to allow the Supreme Court to settle the leadership crisis in the party once and for all.
“We have told him this. He doesn’t need to allow himself to be disgraced the way Sheriff and his people treated him at the meeting we had the other day.
“So, instead of allowing himself to be messed up, he should wash his hands off the crisis and watch as events unfold.”
Efforts made to speak with the former President on the issue was not successful

Nigeria’s Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr, has disclosed how dissatisfied he is with the way players in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), lie about their age. He further said that’s why, he hardly invites any of them to the national team.
The Coach who said this in an interview with Brilla FM said;
“There is an existing problem with Nigeria based players. We cannot tell their real age.
“The door is always open for the best players. The Nigeria League players must prove themselves with the CHAN team first, because at the moment we have a winning team, so the home based players must prove they deserve a place in the team.”

A statement issued by head, information, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Dr Fabian Benjamin has revealed that Soldiers would be drafted to the computer based Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) centres in some parts of the country to beef up security.
According to the statement, this decision was reached after a meting between JAMB Registrar, Professor Is-haq O. Oloyede and Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai in Abuja.
It said the board had formed a common synergy with the army to secure the Computer Based Test (CBT) centres with a view to having a hitch free examination for the 2017 UTME.
“This need became imperative to seek for security intervention from the army, particularly in turbulent areas,” he said.
Commenting on this, General Buratai stated that some of the flash points pointed by the registrar were not only safe but habitable adding that normalcy, particularly in the Northeast had returned even as he promised to deploy troop for more surveillance and protection during the examination.
Christians in Nigeria have been urged by President Muhammadu Buhari to live peacefully with other citizens as they celebrate the Easter.
President Muhammadu Buhari has felicited with Christains who are celebrating the Easter as he said it should be a time of sober reflection. Buhari urged Christians to use this spiritual moment to reflect on how to move the country ahead.
The President in his Easter message further advised Christians to “to live peacefully with one another and do their utmost to make Nigeria a beautiful place to reside.”
He said: “I congratulate our Christian brothers and sisters on the celebration of this year’s Easter.
I rejoice with you on this historic occasion signifying the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness, redemption over condemnation, and hope over despair.
The commemoration of this special season in Christianity, is always preceded by fasting, piety, humility, penance and prayers of intercession in the build up to the death of Jesus Christ on Good Friday, an event which reunited man with his Creator.
The message of Easter is filled with themes of love, faith, sacrifice, dedication, commitment, fulfilment of prophecy, hope, expectation and victory, as espoused in the Scriptures and the teachings and lifestyle of Jesus Christ.
As we celebrate yet another Easter, I urge all Nigerians to live peacefully with one another and do their utmost to make Nigeria a beautiful place to reside.
In the almost two years of this administration, we have worked hard to meet the expectations of Nigerians by improving security, especially in the North-East, sustaining the campaign against corruption and have taken steps to revitalize the economy.
We are determined as never before to continue with the fight against terrorism and insurgency; sustain the peace in the Niger Delta through engagements with stakeholders; and restore peace and stability in other parts of the country.
It is in our collective interest to live in peace because without peace, no meaningful and sustainable development can take place. Lack of peace in one part affects in one way or the other, all parts of the country. Our people must rediscover the values of peaceful co-existence, social justice, religious tolerance, dignity of labour and patriotism.
I enjoin all Nigerians to keep faith in the determination and ability of this administration to change the Nigerian story for the good of all.
I wish all Nigerians happy Easter celebrations.”
A man who claims to be a tomato trader has approached the EFCC to claim ownership of the N250million loot recently found in Balogun market in Lagos.
As controversies rock the nation over the discovery of a staggering N15 billion in an Ikoyi, Lagos apartment, a man has reportedly shown up at the Lagos office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) claiming ownership of the N250 million found at the Balogun Market, Lagos, on Monday.

“We asked him what business fetched him the money, the man said he deals in bringing tomatoes from the North to sell in Lagos. We asked him why he did not put the money in bank, he said he does not use banks. Meanwhile the money is in bales with bank wrappers bearing stamps dated as recent as 6th April, 2017.
“The man was arrested, his statement taken but has been given an administrative bail as investigations continue,” the EFCC source told Saturday Tribune while adding that the money had been deposited with the Central Bank.
As of press time, EFCC spokesperson in Lagos, Sammin Amadin, was yet to respond to an inquiry on the matter.
