The Jamb Registrar has made known to the public that over 300,000 candidates might sit for the JAMB Mock examination coming up on Saturday 8th April, 2017.
He confirmed that about 300,000 opted in to write the mock examinations on April 8, which will be used to test-run its new technology to make its examinations easier for students.
Oloyede, therefore, advised stakeholders to see their involvement in UTME as a call to national duty and personal sacrifice.
*_President Muhammadu Buhari has sent names of two new ministerial nominees to the senate for confirmation_*
Quoting a source, NAN said the letter which contained the names of the nominees from Kogi and Gombe states arrived the senate late Tuesday.
The Kogi nominee will be replacing James Ocholi, the late minister of state for labour, while the one from Gombe would replace Amina Mohammed, former minister for environment, who is the current United Nations deputy secretary- general.
Buhari sent the list at a time when the senate is unhappy with the executive.
The upper legislative chamber halted the screening of resident electoral commissioners (RECs) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as requested by Buhari.
The senate shifted the exercise by two weeks, citing what it termed disregard for its proceedings as reason.
The lawmakers berated the president for appearing to be doing nothing about their rejection of Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of the EFCC.
Information reaching us has it that the ongoing 2017 UTME registration suffered a set back, Monday 27th March,
following some technical hitches that made it impossible to submit candidates’ data online in some centres.
From information gathered, it was almost evening before the problem could be resolved, thereby limiting the number of successful registration on Monday.
We have not ascertained at this time if it was the same case in all the registration centres nationwide.
If this trend continues, JAMB may have no other choice than to extend the registration deadline.
So, were you able to register today?
A reliable source has disclosed that candidates now have the opportunity to choose two public universities during registration. This is contrary to the earlier information that 2017 UTME candidates can only choose 1 public University and 1 private university during the registration.
We believe that the instruction earlier given by JAMB that candidates should choose only one public university was only an advise to candidates due to the fact that in many cases candidates who choose public universities as 1st and 2nd choice end up not even considered for admission by their 2nd choice universities due to the high competition in the universities they selected.
So candidates who wish to select two public universities as 1st and 2nd choice can go ahead an do so. However, the list of Public Universities you can select is VERY LIMITED. Most of the popular Universities will not even be listed, while selecting for 2nd choice. We therefore advise such candidates to ensure they select public universities that are less competitive as their 2nd choice options in order to stand a chance of being considered for admission.
So to further ensure that you make the right choice, we have provided the names of the universities that are less competitive, as earlier announced by JAMB during the 2016 Registration process. We believe this will be similar to what can be obtained as 2nd choice selection for this 2017 Registration.
The list contains Federal, State and Private universities that are less competitive. So if you wish to pick a public university as a 2nd choice, please ensure it is one of the ones on this list or any other one you know that is less competitive.
TIP: You can have 2 or 3 options as a priority list, in case you don’t find one during your selection, you can take the next option.
JAMB UTME 2017 Registration Form Template. This will help you.
There is no official list released by JAMB this 2017 as Universities you can choose as 2nd choice, so you’ll have to make use of the attached list.
The names of the universities are contained on the attached PDF document;

The importation of Tomato paste has been banned by the Federal Government coupled with an increment in the tariff of tomato concentrate.
The federal government, though the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, yesterday banned the importation of tomato paste, powder or concentrate, and increased the tariff on importation of tomato concentrate among others from five to 50 per cent in order to revive the tomato sector.
According to operators, the value of imported tomato paste in Nigeria is about $170 million and $50 million spent on triple tomato concentrate.
In a document obtained yesterday from the Federal Ministry of Industry and trade and investment titled: ‘Implementation of the tomato sector policy’ which was signed by the Director, Industry Development of the ministry, Mr. Adewale Bakare, stated that such action would revive the sector, create jobs and preserve foreign exchange.
The document stated: “As you are aware, government has overtime engaged tomato industry stakeholders on ways to deepen the industry and particularly, encourage the use of locally produced tomato fruits across the value chain. It is in that regard that I am directed to bring to your notice the decision of the government towards boosting production and attracting investments into the tomato sector.
“These include ‘classification of greenhouse equipment as agricultural equipment to attract zero per cent import duty. Ban on the importation of tomato paste, powder or concentrate put up for retailing and others Ban on tomato prepared or preserved by vinegar or acetic acid and others.
“Increase in the tariff on the tomato concentrate and other concentrates (HS Code 2002.90.11.000) from five percent to 50 percent and additional levy of $1,500 per metric tons with the objective of increasing the current tariff from five percent to 50 percent (35percent +5 percent+10 percent) and an additional levy of US$1,500 metric ton.
Restriction on the importation of tomato concentrates to the seaports to address abuse of ECOWAS Trade Liberalisation scheme (ETLS) and inclusion of tomato production and processing in the list of industries eligible for investment incentives administered by the Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC).”
It further stated that “It is expected that the foregoing measures which are situated within the overall road map for the development of the industry, will create jobs, save foreign exchange and create capacity for export of tomato concentrate and paste to ECOWAS sub –region and beyond.”
The length of time schedule for UTME has been drastically reduced according to an official statement by the examination body.
With effect from 2017, candidates sitting for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination would have to spend two hours instead of three hours, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, said on Wednesday.
According to JAMB, a total of 240,000 candidates have so far registered for the examination which has been scheduled for May 20, barely one week after the commencement of the sale of forms which is expected to end on April 22.
The organisation said the reduction of hours was in line with international best standards and practices where no candidate is kept in an examination such as UTME for more than two hours.
The Registrar/Chief Executive of JAMB, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, stated this in Kaduna, during the opening ceremony of a strategic planning retreat on the monitoring, supervision and evaluation of 2017 UTME with the theme: “Inclusiveness and sensitisation of key external actors.”
He said, “We are going to reduce the duration of the examination for this year’s UTME. You cannot keep children of this age for three hours. For their age, the maximum time you can keep them is two hours. So, we are considering the reduction in the time they spend because once it is more than two hours you can’t expect that they will retain their presence of mind.”
Oloyede adde that out of 13 commercial banks and the Nigeria Postal Service that have signified interest in the sales of the admission forms, only nine have paid for the number of application documents they required in the first instance.
Zenith Bank has procured N2.5 billion worth of forms while Jaiz Bank procured N256 million worth of forms.
The acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, has denied owning houses in the Maitama area of Abuja.
Reports over the past weekend alleged that some powerful forces, within and outside of government have intensified efforts to break down the defence lines of the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Ibrahim Magu,
The Sun exclusively reported that one of such moves, is an ongoing discreet investigation into the true ownership of two mansions on different streets in high brow Maitama area of Abuja. The houses being investigated are located in Danube Street, Maitama and Missouri Street, off Colorado Close, Ministers Hill, also in Maitama.
In a swift reaction on the controversial report, the EFCC acting chairman, Ibrahim Magu, said that he is sueing The Sun Newspaper for the report, and also denied owning the house in Maitama.
Below is an official press release;
The acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, has denied owning any house or houses in the Maitama area of Abuja.
Reacting to a report captioned, “Magu Under Fresh Probe over 2 Abuja Mansions”, which appeared in The Sun Newspaper of March 25, the EFCC boss dismissed the story as a work of fiction that threatens legal action against the newspaper and the authors of the story.
The report which appeared on page 9 of the newspaper, among others, claimed that Mr. Magu is being probed regarding the ownership of two mansions in the Maitama area of Abuja allegedly linked to his wife.
Relying on ghost sources, the newspaper claimed that “the houses being investigated are located in Danube Street, Maitama and Missouri Street, off Colorado Close, Ministers Hill.” It added that “the two houses were said to have been bought last year.”
Mr. Magu stated that neither himself nor his wife own any property in Maitama. He urged Nigerians to disregard the report as false and designed by the authors to achieve motives that are obvious.
“I don’t have any mansion anywhere in Maitama. Would I have two mansions in Abuja yet choose to live in a rented apartment in the same community? The Sun can take over the properties if they have evidence that they belong to me or my wife”, Mr. Magu said.
The acting chairman disclosed that he is taking legal action against the newspaper.
“This is another calculated attempt to smear my reputation. They may have gotten away with such false reports in the past but I will not let this go unchallenged. I have already briefed my lawyers to institute legal action against The Sun Newspaper,” Mr. Magu declared.
A man from the northern part of the country will be spending time behind bars for defaming the governor of his state who is a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
A Katsina Chief Magistrate’s Court has sentenced one Gambo Saeed to nine months imprisonment for insulting and defaming the character of Gov. Aminu Masari of Katsina State on social media. Saeed resides in Muduru village in Mani Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Isa Liti, earlier told the court that Saeed was arraigned following complaints received from Mr Mansur Ali Mashi, Senior Special Assistant (SSA), to the Governor on Radio Monitoring.
“Mashi said the accused person abused Masari and called him names on social media.
“He said the accused person posted on the media that it was Gov. Masari who influenced the impeachment of Speaker of Katsina State House of Assembly, Aliyu Muduru.’’
Liti said police arrested the accused person and arraigned him for intentional insult, defamation of the governor’s character and inciting disturbance.
The charges were in accordance with sections 399, 392 and 114 of the Penal Code.
He also explained that the accused person confessed to have committed the offences.
Delivering the judgment on Monday in Katsina, Chief Magistrate Abdu Ladan, said the court has found the accused person guilty of the said offences; each charge attracts three years imprisonment.
Ladan then sentenced the accused to nine months imprisonment without option of fine.
Some of the prospective candidates for the 2017 UTME have called on the Board to address the issue of poor internet services and other technical issues that has made the vending of the ePIN difficult in many of the banks and registration centres.
According to the information gathered, candidates in Keffi, Akwanga and Lafia Local Government Areas of Nasarawa State have been finding it difficult to get their ePINs since the commencement of the registration.
They therefore called on JAMB to resolve all pending issues to enable them register before the given deadline.
Reacting, to this, the Zonal Acting Coordinator of JAMB in Lafia, Mr Moses Akobu, urged the prospective candidates to be patient, adding that the management of JAMB is on top of the situation to rectify the problem.
“The new e-vending system is error free, so the hitches in which candidates are facing is temporary, just within a few hours or days, the problem will be over,” he assured.
Cossy Ojiakor of South-eastern descent is reportedly writing a book about prostitution in Nollywood with a focus on actresses that betrayed her trust.
Busty actress, Cossy Ojiakor has launched a sensual photo of her fresh ‘pumpkins’ in full public glare as she announces the near-completion of her highly anticipated tell-it-all book, tentatively titled, ‘Tales of Delilah’.

Cossy in recent times has indirectly indicted some top entertainment practitioners in her serial story currently narrated via social media.
The National leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who spoke at a colloquium held in his honour for his 65th birthday, has made some suggestions for President Muhammadu Buhari.
While speaking at the 9th colloquium held in his honour at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos on Tuesday, the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, identified four things that the country must do to achieve economic revival.
According to the former Lagos state governor, who spoke at the event to mark his 65th birthday, the country must embrace diversification and industrial policy, it must invest in infrastructure and improve on power supply, the Central Bank of Nigeria must lower the interest rates to encourage investors and the government must embark on agricultural reforms.
At the 9th Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Colloquium with theme, “Make it in Nigeria: Use what we make, make what we use,” Tinubu who spoke in a speech titled, “Nigeria: Meeting current challenges,” said it was time that Nigeria changed its economic model as it was obvious that the old model, where the country relied solely on revenue from crude oil export, had crashed right before our eyes.
He said it was good that the President Muhammadu Buhari’s government had realised this and had begun the painful process of salvaging the nation’s economy by embarking on diversification.
He, however, advised the Federal Government to team up with the private sector players in its quest to diversify the economy, adding that the country must borrow a leaf from the experiences of countries such as England, America and China, which had today become self-reliant by taking tough decisions.
“We must learn from England, which barred the migration of its master craftsmen and the export of textile looms at the dawn of the Industrial Revolution; to America and high tariffs it imposed on foreign manufactured goods for over 150 years from its independence until after the World War 2; to China which implemented a most radical and comprehensive protectionist regime to become the world’s most prolific manufacturing nation,”
One of the world’s best footballers in contemporary times, Lionel Messi is being made to face the wrath of FIFA after committing an offence.
The FIFA Disciplinary Committee – in application of articles 77 a) and 108 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (FDC) – has reached a decision in relation to the case of Lionel Messi.
This is coming following an incident that occurred during the match between Argentina and Chile on 23 March 2017 as part of the qualifying competition for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.
Lionel Messi has been found guilty of violating art. 57 of the FDC for having directed insulting words at an assistant referee.
As a result, Messi will be suspended for four official matches and sanctioned with a fine of CHF 10,000. The first match for which the sanction will apply is the next fixture in the preliminary competition of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ between Bolivia and Argentina, which will be played today, 28 March.
The remainder of the sanction will be served over Argentina’s subsequent FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.
This decision is in line with the FIFA Disciplinary Committee’s previous rulings in similar cases.
Both the player and the Argentinian Football Association have been informed of the decision today.

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has been drawn to cases of candidates being unable to complete their registrations due to invalid E-PINS.
According to JAMB, this is caused by the following;
1.A very high rate of candidates buying ePINS without creating their profile first.
2.Incorrect email address provided at the bank teller…..
3..Recent enforcement of email validation of candidates emails. Candidates who have not created their profile properly would be affected.
4.Unforeseen technical issues in the PIN vending system.
If you are one of those affected by this, here are the next steps you are to take.
1.Do NOT to buy new pins in the case of invalid pins. The cause of the invalid pin has been investigated
2. All candidates having invalid pins responses have been captured on the system and will receive their PIN details on or before Monday 27th March,2017.
3.Emails with candidate name, email and valid pins will be sent to candidates before Monday 27th March 2017.
To avoid the issue of invalid E-PIN, candidates MUST ensure
1. They create their profiles before proceeding to buy the ePIN. D ePIN vendors (Banks) can create d profile before vending the pin.
2. Each candidate’s email address will now be verified on the system before e-PINS are vended.
3. Any candidate with an incorrect email address will not be served. It therefore requires entering the same valid email address twice.
4. All candidates are to ensure that they provide valid phone numbers.
5. Candidates are encouraged to utilize only Jamb accredited Centers and ensure they do not patronize fraudsters.
Please send an email to JAMB directly if you are charged above the Board’s official fee at support.jamb.org.ng

Sunny Neji, in a new interview with Saturday Beats, has made it known he is super proud of Nigerian artistes like
Flavour, P-Square and even Tekno for doing his style of music, hip-life.
The veteran singer said it is a relief as it showed that he did not waste his time being the pioneer of the sound
“When I see what Flavour, P-Square, Tekno and others are doing, it makes me feel proud. It makes me feel like I was not wasting my time all this while because they are following in my footsteps.
It also shows how important our indigenous music is. You can run around and do other forms of music because sometimes my music is eclectic but predominantly, I need to connect with my immediate audience. I am happy with the fact that the younger generation have embraced hip-life music. It makes me feel proud because I have been a pioneer of it,” he said.
On his new song, ‘Aeroplane Turner,’ which not only addressed the curent hardship Nigerians are facing, also proffered some solutions through the song.
Sunny Neji, also revealed that his album which he hopes will effortlessly connect with people, wil soon be completed. He added that he featured CDQ and Phyno on the new project.
“The song is new so I don’t want to blow my own trumpet but I just want the song to connect the way I have seen it in my mind and it should connect with people. I leave everything in the hands of God. I have done my bit. I had a vision that I had to do something to inspire my people through these trying times. The Vice-Chancellor of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, who arrived at the National Assembly Abuja over the embattled Senator, Dino Melaye’s certificate scandal, has put the matter to bed.
The Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, on Monday confirmed that Senator Dino Melaye graduated from the school, although under a different name.
“From records, Dino formerly known as Daniel Jonah Melaye graduated from ABU with a BA in Geography,” Professor Ibrahim Garba said while appearing before the Senate on Monday. He said the senator graduated in 2000 with a third class in BA Geography.
Earlier, Melaye appeared before Senate Committee on Ethics to defend himself against the allegation that he did not graduate from the school.
He presented documents such as acceptance letter, acceptance of offer of admission, result and final year dissertation to buttress his claims of being an ABU alumni.
Curiously, however, the senator said he changed his name from Daniel Melaye to Dino Melaye but did not present any affidavit to back up that claim.
Recall that the Senate had last week, tasked the committee chaired by Samuel Anyanwu, PDP-Imo, to investigate the allegation that Dino Melaye, APC-Kogi, did not graduate from ABU as he claims in official documentations.
That Senate’s resolution followed a motion by former Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, who said the scandal had made the Senate subject of public ridicule.

Following the controversy over the academic certificate of Senator Dino Melaye with many sources alleging that he didn’t graduate from ABU, the Federal Government has written the university.
The Federal Government has officially demanded the authority of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) to supply the academic details of lawmaker, Senator Dino Melaye, following the controversy over his completion of his degree programme in Geography at the University, Guardian reports .
This new development followed information revealed by a top official of ABU, Zaria, who said: “the University is already compiling the records of Senator Dino Melaye for the Government that demanded the immediate release to Government and the University will respond soon.”
According to the official, “ nobody is in doubt if Senator Melaye attended the University, but what people are saying is whether he completed his course of study and the university will make the relevant information available,” adding that, “to the best of my knowledge, the Senator was on this campus and read a course of study for which I think he graduated between 1997 and 1998 as the case may be.
“These details can always be found in the list of graduating students of Geography in either of those years as the case may be, but for me, I think he ran a programme and I should think he successfully ended up in either of those years I mentioned.”
Besides, a Student Union Government (SUG) official activist and departmental mate of Senator Melaye, who also pleaded anonymity, said, “the Senator and I were in Geography Department and two of us were also officials of the National Union of Geography Students at ABU.”
He remarked, “while Dino was the National President of Geography Department, I was the Assistant Secretary General, I presided over his impeachment during the controversy leading to his ousting from that office.
“Let me tell you, Dino was a radical student activist in campus. I will give that to him and at a point he was confrontational to the establishment in the University. And at last, the institution did everything possible to bring him close and later became the eyes of the authority on campus.”
According to him, “I can attest that Senator Dino actually completed a course of study in Geography in 1998; whether he had carry-over in some courses that were later waved is what I cannot say.”
“I think Dino later graduated from ABU, Zaria with a Third class or Pass. I am sure of that.
Let anybody not deceive you that he did not study or graduate in ABU. Go and find out, he did. He is stubborn, that I will give to him. And I think that is what is still trailing him in the Senate,” he said.
