The Joint Admission Matriculation Board [JAMB] in a bid to highlight the major pre-registration tips to candidates has disclosed that there is no more room for candidates to select two public university during online registration starting from 2017.
But If a candidate wishes to select a public University as their degree awarding choice, then they are only allowed to select a private University as another choice.
What we mean by the above statement is that you can only select 1 public & 1 private university as 1st and 2nd choice.
This information was actually disclosed via the official twitter handle of the board.
See Image Below:
This new development attracted attention of fans who opposed the idea and tagged it as a bad policy.
Meanwhile the examination board also said that Candidates can make their 1st choice Institution to be any of NCE, Degree, IEI or ND e.g Students can select a Polytechnic or College Or University to function as 1st choice which is usually a University or Degree Awarding Institution.
The 4th choice option can only be IEI; i.e. candidate can only select an IEI as their 4th choice
Candidates can select NCE as their choices up to 3 times i.e. 1st choice, 2nd choice and 3rd choice
Candidates can select ND as their choices up to 3 times i.e. 1st choice, 2nd choice and 3rd choice.
Candidates can select IEI as their choices up-to 4 times i.e. 1st choice, 2nd choice, 3rd choice and 4th choice
Candidates can select IEI as their choices up-to 3 times i.e. 1st choice, 2nd choice and 3rd choice.
Dear Students What Is Your Take Or Views On This New JAMB Policy?
In a series of Tweets on Friday, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) released some guidelines for the 2017 registration of the Unified tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) .
The tweets read:
Candidates can make their 1st choice Institution to be any of NCE, Degree, IEI or ND
The 4th choice option can only be IEI (Innovation Enterprise Institutes); i.e. candidate can only select an IEI as their 4th choice
If candidates select a public University as their degree awarding choice, they are allowed to select a private University as another choice.
But they are not allowed to select two public Universities as choices.
In an interview with Premium Times, JAMB’s Head of Media and Information, Fabian Benjamin , said that the development is as a result of the fact that candidates hardly get admissions into their second and third choice universities.
“Yes we restricted the choice to one but candidates can choose as many colleges or polytechnics We discovered it was of no use choosing a university as second choice when in actual sense they can’t even accommodate their first choices,” he said.

A former Minister of Finance has said he will be the one to lead a protest against the Federal Government if it implements its price control policy.
A former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae has vowed to lead protest against the Federal Government over its proposed price control.
He said the price control policy would not alleviate the suffering of the people, particularly farmers in the rural areas.
According to the former Minister for Finance, the governement should allow market forces to determine the prices of food and not for the government to fix prices for the farmers on the farm produce.
The elder statesman stated this at a rural development forum, organised by Habitat Interest Enterprises in collaboration with All Farmers Congress of Nigeria in Akure, the Ondo State capital on Thursday.
Falae said, ”The government said recently that they wanted to make price control policy, if they start it, I will be the one to lead a protest against the policy. This is because the policy can never work and It will never work.
”We should allow market forces to determine the prices of food, government should not regulate the prices of farm produces.”
He noted that what the government should do was to regulate the prices fixed by the manufacturers of farm implements, adding that the government should regulate the prices of petrol, fertilizer, transportation and farm tools.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON THE RECENT DEMONSTRATION ON FUTO CAMPUS
The Management of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) wishes to make the following statement concerning the violent demonstration and wanton destruction of University property which occurred on Friday, February 17, 2017.
1) The University, like all Federal Universities in the country, does not charge tuition fees for undergraduate students. Only fees for municipal and other services are charged.
2) There was no increase in the service fees payable, except for seven thousand naira (N7,000.00) only upwards adjustment in the ICT fee for ongoing upgrade, which was done after mutual understanding between the University Management and the Students Union Government (SUG).
3) There is no approved fee for course registration and any staff found involved in collection of money for course registration will be liable for collection of illegal fees and will face appropriate disciplinary measures.
4) There is general apathy among Students of the University to paying fees for services. Less than twenty percent (20%) of returning (old) Students have paid their service fees twelve (12) weeks into the 2016/2017 Harmattan Semester.
